Brasken and his inner beast were conflicting individuals warring for control, at least until the formed a partnership and were able to take the advantages of both sides.

With Sir Demarrick's case, the beast is controlled and aware of things. It is not so much a separate entity from Sir Demarrick as another side of him that he tries to conceal. If you've ever had an 'anti-Muse', you'll know what I mean :)
